10 Collections - Topographic Maps

My collection is focused on two-dimensional Engineering and Architectural Plan details of topographic maps and surveys taken from the Miami area throughout a period of fifty years.  This accumulation of construction documents over a length of time can be considered collectible because of the relationship that drafting and map making shares with fine art. As in an artwork, the topographic study can transcend the two dimensional-drawing, which is itself varied, and can be divided up into types based on its color, line, digital, or manual qualities, and become a sculptural object as well. In the history of architectural presentation, these drawings have been typically presented alongside physical and digital iterations of the three-dimensional topographic form.  Although the documentation of these items can exist in the digital sphere, they are generally displayed as flat files in city and regional centers, architecture offices, as well as museums and galleries. It is my hope to develop this accrual of documents and models from existent maps into a collection and a product that would appeal to a client. An aficionado of presentation documents and the City of Miami may be interested in acquiring this collection of topographic maps and models from their beloved city for their own.

Record Collection

The collection of physical music is arguably so popular because of the connection that people are able to make with the medium. An exceptional record can harken memories of going to a concert or traveling to a festival; an iconic album art can spark images of you and your best friend taking turns sharing just discovered music to each other. A somber guitar riff can rouse gut-wrenching emotion that only the musician can truly associate with, while a clever verse can make a crowd of people scream and shout and jump and shove. The album art, the first impression of an album for most people, is often a work of art in and of itself, and that is best appreciated on the gatefold sleeve of a record's packaging. A captivating album art can help make a band's album a commercial success and can complement or forecast the feel of the album. Take Inter Arma's record "The Cavern", on the bottom row, second from the left. The monochromatic image of the cave on the cover exudes a dark, consuming, gaping maw in the earth, exemplifying a sense of overwhelming atmosphere the further you imagine yourself delving into the chasm. It's absolutely appropriate, considering the album itself is a single, 45 minute sludgey, droning expanse of a song that is simultaneously hideous and gorgeous.

Surfer MAGAZINE Collection

Surfer Mag Collection FIU

The Surfer Magazine started in 1959 by John Severson to accompany his surf films, going from a quarterly printing to a bi-monthly printing, and becoming the figurative center of the surf world, and a hub for environmental activists. With humor and good sense of design, Surfer has become a well known literary insight to the sport. For that reason, I bring you the Surfer Mag collection. It's minimalist design with each article and an aesthetically pleasing placement of photos, you begin to feel comfortable and integrated to a facet of the Surf world. From articles describing utter despair for our ocean waters due to oil spills, to over fishing and the destruction of natural beaches from tourism. With well designed Pro Surfer profiles, and descriptive adventures of such pro-surfers, both on pro-tour, and off tour, as expositions of the soul, Surfer takes you where otherwise you would never go without being a part of this sport niche. Besides, it never hurts that each spotlight cover photo, are perfectly taken and edited photos o the exploits of some of our favorite surfers, blended well with minimalist text layout. We invite you to come look through some of the history of this cornerstone of the surf world with the Surfer Magazine Collection.

These rocks are simple depictions and pieces of the Earth. With every rock, they tell a story about the Earth. Most rocks from the Earth are made up of a numerous amount of elements, these rocks are either Sedimentary, Igneous or Metamorphic. Almost all rocks are made up of minerals and different mixtures that contain minerals such as; oxygen, silicon, aluminum, iron, magnesium, calcium, potassium and sodium. Rocks are constantly changing and eroding as the years go by and they intrigue me because the Earth is at least 4.5 billion years old, therefore, since the rocks are constantly changing then so is the Earth. By analyzing these rocks and it's texture, shape and form, hypothetically speaking, these rocks are telling a story and anyone can gain a solid understanding of the Earth we live on and it's long history.

My collection is of something I have loved all my life and was born out of an appreciation of fashion and the hip hop culture. I think one of the reasons I love hats so much is the various looks and styles you can achieve from them. I get the sense that can become who it is you want to be that day through self expression. Subsequently I have named my collection All Caps as a clever play on words.

10 collections

I chose Marvel Comic books for my collection. I typically collect vintage comics from the 1990’s and earlier. Marvel Worldwide Inc., commonly referred to as Marvel Comics and formerly Marvel Publishing, Inc. and Marvel Comics Group, is an American publisher of comic books and related media.

Marvel started in 1939 as Timely Publications, and by the early 1950s had generally become known as Atlas Comics. Marvel's modern incarnation dates from 1961, the year that the company launched The Fantastic Four and other superhero titles created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko and many others.

Some of Marvel's well known superhero characters include Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Wolverine, Thor, Hulk, Daredevil, Dr. Strange, and Ant-Man, teams such as the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the Inhumans and the X-Men, and antagonists such as Doctor Doom, Green Goblin, Ultron, Doctor Octopus, Thanos, Magneto and Loki. Most of Marvel's fictional characters operate in a single reality known as the Marvel Universe, with locations that mirror real-life cities. Characters such as Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, Daredevil and Dr. Strange are based in New York City, whereas the X-Men have historically been based in Salem Center, New York and Hulk's stories often have been set in the American Southwest.

NBA Jersey Collection

Varying in colors, material, age, typography, stitching, and design layout is the essence of every NBA jersey. Initially the jerseys held a rather plain look with a solid color and plain typography to give view to the team name, number of the player, and on the back, the last name of the player. As years went on, jerseys began to take a different look, as designs were experimented with. Along with the experimentation, teams started to take on more looks rather than just the Home/Away jerseys. In my collection, jerseys range primarily from the 1990's to 2014, which gives a tangible visual as to how the evolution of jerseys happened. In the 90's the jerseys had begun to take on screen printed designs through the brand "Champion". With those early effort and the aging toll on the jerseys, it is evident to see that the jerseys were clearly an experiment as the designs did not uphold well through the years. One of the greatest aspects of the jerseys is the ability to look at them up close and see the details that went into the process of creating the jersey, for example the stitching or the perfect center placement of the front and the rear designs. I find it awesome, that an individual or group of individuals came up with the design of a jersey and eventually, the ideas they had were brought to life and then seen nationally amongst audiences, also being worn by not only the NBA players but also fans of the game. This is the essence of each and every jersey in my collection, each jersey went through a thorough design process and eventually was brought to life and found it's place in the history of the NBA.

Soccer Jerseys "10 Collections"

My Collection consist of Soccer jerseys from different teams from around the world. The emotion connection to any sports team is clearly shown through a teams jersey, nothing more shows home field advantage then a stadium filled with the team's color. Most of the soccer jerseys in my collection are from historical soccer teams; the strips, symbols and colors tell the story of great clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United, Juventus, and Barcelona. Arsenal's canon logo represents the long military history of the surrounding area; Barcelona's red, blue, and yellow strips goes back to the rich Catalonia heritage. Also in my collection we have clubs attempting to make their own history like Juventus and Chelsea.

Through my collection I want to show my emotion connection to each of these jerseys, an in depth look in to the inspiration that these jerseys and the players who have worn them have brought me. My first love safe to say is playing soccer, since I can remember I've been running around with a soccer ball on my feet. Then came my first jersey, a beautiful red and white Arsenal jersey, patched on the back was the number and name of the great Theirry Henry. Quickly after that soccer stop being hubby and formed into a dream, a dream driven by my Arsenal jersey, to one day be good enough to stand by my idol Henry and wear the beautiful red and white. Sacrificing time with friends, I dedicated my youth to training to be best soccer player I could be. This dream has taking me to 10 different countries, introduced me to numerous different cultures, and has shape the young man I am today. Though some may see only sport jerseys, I plan to bring out the real emotion out of my collection.
